People I Can’t Trust

People I’ll no longer trust…People who spell whoa – woah.

I know this is petty of me, I can freely admit that.

I understand that this is how language evolves, but I can’t stand this spelling of the word. There is no rational reason as to why, I just can’t.

On some level, it bothers me because we have a perfectly adequate spelling of the word that seems fine. Why do we need two spellings for no reason?

On another, it just feels like it came about out of laziness. Like someone misspelled it, which happens. Then someone else saw it, and didn’t bother look it up or change it, so they used it. Then someone else used it and knew it didn’t look right but said fuck it, it’s Friday and I only have 5 minutes before I clock out, just let it go. Then it just grew from there.

So yeah, if you spell it like that, I am choosing not to trust you. Not because you’re a bad person, but I’m petty and for some reason beyond explanation, woah irritates the fuck out of me.
